What EV Charger Do You Need for a 2022 Lucid Air Dream R?

What to buy
A 80 A charger on a 100 A circuit
Your 2022 Lucid Air Dream R accepts at most 19.2 kW (80 A) of AC power. A larger charger will not charge it faster.

Eighty amps. That is what the Lucid Air Dream R draws at maximum Level 2 AC charging. It pushes 19.2 kilowatts into the battery pack. You will need a hardwired supply to feed it.

Why 80 amps and not more

The car accepts up to 80 amps, so the recommended EVSE matches that draw. Dropping to a smaller unit slows your recovery time. A smaller 40-amp or 50-amp charger will still fill the 139.7 kWh battery, but it takes much longer. Feeding the onboard charger at its peak capability delivers 71 miles of range per hour. Anything less forces the car to idle longer on the wall.

What the install involves

An 80-amp draw requires a 100-amp breaker and heavy-gauge copper wiring run directly from your main panel. Plugs and receptacles cannot handle this continuous load safely, which is why the vehicle requires hardwiring. You must hire an electrician for this work. Do not attempt DIY installation on a circuit of this size.

Chargers that match this car

The first unit matches your car's full 80 A. The others are slightly slower but cost less.

Common questions

How long does a full charge take at maximum Level 2 speed?
It takes 7.3 hours to refill the battery from empty at the 80-amp peak rate. The EPA test estimates 13.0 hours because standard testing protocols do not always run at the car's maximum AC rate.
Can I use a standard wall outlet?
Level 1 charging on a standard household outlet takes 97 hours for a full charge. It delivers only 5.4 miles of range per hour. You need a dedicated Level 2 circuit for daily driving.
What connector does the car use?
The car uses a J1772 connector for AC Level 2 charging. Every non-Tesla EV sold in North America through 2024 uses this standard.
What is the total battery capacity?
The battery holds 139.7 kWh of energy. This massive pack yields an EPA-rated range of 520 miles.
