What home charger does the Mercedes-Benz EQB need?

What to buy, 2022-2025
A 40 A charger on a 50 A circuit
Every Mercedes-Benz EQB from 2022 to 2025 accepts at most 9.6 kW (40 A) of AC power, whatever the trim. A bigger charger will not charge it any faster.

Why 40 amps and not more

A 48 A charger won't help, because the EQB stops at 40 A, and it costs more to install since it needs a bigger circuit and hardwiring. A 40 A unit is the easiest size to fit, since it can plug into a NEMA 14-50 outlet. Dropping to a 32 A charger brings a 2025 from 25 to 31 miles of range per hour down to 20 to 25.

Charging time by model year

YearEPA rangeLevel 2, miles per hourLevel 2, empty to full120 V, miles per hour
2025205 to 251 mi25 to 318.2 to 8.4 h3.7 to 4.6
2024205 to 251 mi25 to 318.2 to 8.4 h3.7 to 4.6
2022227 to 243 mi27 to 298.3 to 8.4 h4.1 to 4.3

Level 2 figures assume a charger that supplies the car's full rate. Where a year shows a range, it spans that year's trims.

The EQB charged the same way throughout. A 2022 adds 27 to 29 miles of range per hour and fills in 8.3 to 8.4 hours, and the 2024 and 2025 cars are close behind at 8.2 to 8.4 hours. Range sits between 205 and 251 miles.

What the install involves

A 40 A charger plugs into a NEMA 14-50 outlet on a 50 A breaker, or it can be hardwired. The plug-in route is handy if you move house. Hardwiring suits a charger that stays put, and avoids wear on the receptacle from nightly use.
