What home charger does the Cadillac Optiq need?
| Model years | Trims | Charger | Breaker |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2027 | 19kW Charger, V Series 19kW Charger | 80 A | 100 A |
| 2027 | 11kW Charger, V Series 11kW Charger | 48 A | 60 A |
| 2026 | V Series 19 kW charger | 80 A | 100 A |
| 2026 | base model, V Series 11 kW Charger | 48 A | 60 A |
Check which onboard charger your Cadillac Optiq has before you buy. Versions with the 19.2 kW charger can use an 80 A unit on a 100 A breaker. The rest, including the base 2026 car, take 48 A on a 60 A breaker.
Why the amperage matters
A 48 A Optiq gains nothing from a bigger charger. A 19.2 kW Optiq does: on a 2027 it adds 47 to 60 miles of range per hour at 80 A and 28 to 36 on a 48 A unit.
Charging time by model year
| Year | EPA range | Level 2, miles per hour | Level 2, empty to full | 120 V, miles per hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2027 | 250 to 317 mi | 31 to 60 | 5.3 to 8.9 h | 3.5 to 4.5 |
| 2026 | 250 to 317 mi | 31 to 47 | 5.3 to 8.9 h | 3.5 to 4.5 |
Level 2 figures assume a charger that supplies the car's full rate. Where a year shows a range, it spans that year's trims.
Both 2026 and 2027 Optiqs come in the two charger versions, so the model year alone won't tell you. The 2026 V-Series was offered with either, and for 2027 the trim name spells it out. Empty to full takes as little as 5.3 hours on the fastest versions and up to 8.9 hours on the others.
What the install involves
Hardwire either size. An 80 A charger needs a 100 A breaker and a 48 A charger needs a 60 A breaker, and no standard receptacle is rated for either load. Ask the electrician about panel capacity first, because a 100 A circuit is often more than an existing service can add.
- 80 A charger: 100 A breaker, hardwired only.
- 48 A charger: 60 A breaker, hardwired, because no household receptacle is rated for a 48 A charger.
- Charge port: J1772. From 2025 the industry is moving to the NACS port, and makers switch at different times. Some of these cars have a J1772 port and some have NACS with an adapter, so look at the port on your own car before choosing a charger's plug.

Common questions
- Is an 80 A charger worth it for a Cadillac Optiq?
- Only if your Optiq has the 19.2 kW charger. On those cars it cuts charging time noticeably. On the others it charges no faster than 48 A.
- Does a 2026 Cadillac Optiq use the same charger as a 2027?
- It can. Both years come in 48 A and 80 A versions, so match the charger to the car's onboard charger rather than the year.
- What charge port does the Cadillac Optiq have?
- Check your own car. From 2025 makers are moving from J1772 to NACS on their own schedules.
- How much does a 120 V outlet add to a Cadillac Optiq?
- About 3.5 to 4.5 miles of range per hour.
