Why 48 amps and not more

The car sets the current, not the charger. A charger only advertises what it can supply, and the ZDX takes up to its own limit and stops. An 80 A unit therefore charges it no faster than a 48 A one. Going smaller does cost you, though. On a 40 A unit a 2026 ZDX adds 23 to 26 miles of range per hour instead of 28 to 31.

Level 2 figures assume a charger that supplies the car's full rate. Where a year shows a range, it spans that year's trims.

The 2024 and 2026 ZDX use the same 11.5 kW onboard charger. A full charge from empty runs 10.2 to 10.4 hours on a 2024 and 10.4 to 10.5 hours on a 2026, depending on trim. Plug in after dinner and it is done by morning.

What the install involves

A 48 A charger has to be hardwired, because no standard household receptacle is rated for that load. Ask the electrician to look at the panel first. A 60 A circuit is a big addition, and a load calculation tells you whether the service can carry it. If it can't, most units let you dial the current down to fit.
