Why 48 amps and not more

That 11.0 kW figure is the ceiling. Install an 80 A unit and the car still draws 48 A. The reverse costs real time. On a 40 A charger a 2027 adds 22 to 24 miles of range per hour, against 27 to 29 at 48 A.

What the install involves

Expect to pull a permit. A new 240 V circuit usually needs one, plus an inspection once the charger is wired in, and a licensed electrician normally includes both in the quote. The charger itself is hardwired to a 60 A breaker because no plug-in receptacle is rated for 48 A.
