What home charger does the Ford F-150 Lightning need?

What to buy, 2022-2025
48 A or 80 A, depending on trim
Not every Ford F-150 Lightning has the same onboard charger. Find yours in the table. A smaller one gains nothing from a bigger wall unit.

It comes down to the battery. A Standard Range F-150 Lightning accepts 11.3 kW and needs a 48 A charger on a 60 A breaker. An Extended Range truck accepts 19.2 kW and can use an 80 A charger on a 100 A breaker, which is what Ford's Charge Station Pro supplies.

Why the amperage matters

An 80 A charger on a Standard Range truck is wasted money, since the truck stops at 48 A. On an Extended Range truck the 80 A unit pays off: a 2025 extended-range model adds 38 to 41 miles of range per hour at 80 A and 23 to 25 on a 48 A charger.

2023240 to 320 mi40*8 h*3
2022230 to 320 mi40*8 h*3

Level 2 figures assume a charger that supplies the car's full rate. Where a year shows a range, it spans that year's trims. * Fastest trim. The lower-amperage trims take proportionally longer.

The split by battery has held since 2022. For 2022 to 2024, the Extended Range trucks charge at up to 40 miles of range per hour and fill from empty in about 8 hours at 80 A. For 2024 the PRO work truck also takes 80 A. For 2025 the lineup is labelled ER1, ER2 and SR, and the SR is the 48 A truck.

What the install involves

An 80 A charger needs a 100 A breaker and a hardwired connection, and many homes need a panel or service upgrade to add that. A 48 A charger on a 60 A breaker is the usual fallback, and it still covers most daily driving overnight. Both sizes are hardwired.

Common questions

How do I tell if my Ford F-150 Lightning is Standard Range or Extended Range?
Check the window sticker or the original order. Extended Range trucks can use 80 A, and Standard Range trucks 48 A.
Is a 48 A charger good enough for an Extended Range Ford F-150 Lightning?
It works, on a 60 A breaker. You get 23 to 25 miles of range per hour on a 2025 instead of 38 to 41.
How long does a Ford F-150 Lightning take to charge from empty?
About 8 hours for a 2022 to 2024 Extended Range truck on 80 A. For 2025, times run from 7.3 to 10.5 hours depending on battery and charger.
How much does a 120 V outlet add to a Ford F-150 Lightning?
Only about 2.8 to 3.1 miles of range per hour, so it suits emergencies, not daily use.
